Thornton’s Youth Drama Academy (TYDA) is a boutique drama school for kids located in Coomera on the Gold Coast. TYDA offers a variety of children’s drama classes every week for different age groups and caters for beginners wanting development, through to the more advanced students seeking performance advancement.

TYDA students belong to an amazing and rewarding community of like-minded children and not only learn performance techniques but build on their personal confidence and social interaction by making life long friends.


The aim of TYDA is to promote CONFIDENCE, COMMUNICATION and COOPERATION to its students by providing a creative, engaging and comfortable community.

TYDA believes that drama can play a vital role in a child’s future by teaching them life skills that will drive them to reach their full potential. We're proud of what we do.

Belinda Thornton

Principle / teacher

Belinda, or "Miss B" as her students know her by, is the principal and main teacher at TYDA.

For the past seven years Belinda has created, and successfully managed,  one of the only excellence program for dance and drama across all primary schools on the Gold Coast.


Belinda has an evident passion for drama and dance coupled with 15 years of experience in teaching to children aged between 4 and 16 years of age.

Belinda was also Head of Performing Arts for 7 years at a renowned local state school and holds a Degree in Education and Welfare and a Diploma in Speech and Drama.

One of Belinda's greatest on-stage achievements was her role as Bette Midler which she performed many times in London.
